At the annual dinner on Friday 11th October, a certificate was presented to members of the Welwyn Hatfield Conservative Policy Forum group chaired by Steven Hall in recognition of their valuable contributions to a national discussion paper on ‘Working Families’. On the night, Local MP Grant Shapps said that; ‘this is an immensely proud moment for me as MP for Welwyn Hatfield.’
Conservative Policy Forum was re-launched in January of 2011 and has since grown massively with around 250 active groups taking part up and down the country reviewing 9 papers a year. CPF aims to create a more direct link between Party members and CPF Chairman Oliver Letwin MP, Minister for Government Policy. CPF allows members to have their voices heard and to have a real say in the direction that the Party is taking. This is done through 9 discussion briefs a year on a number of varying subjects from ‘Foreign affairs’ to ‘Health’. Local groups then meet to discuss the most recent issues and all responses are then sent back to Central Office to be summarised by experts and then passed along to the relevant Minister to be considered who, in turn, responds to the findings.
Winning this National award is a massive achievement for Welwyn Hatfield as it shows that members’ voices and opinions are valued by those at the highest level within the government system. It’s another benefit of modern day membership of the Party.
