A great new initiative is about to be launched in Welwyn Hatfield which will have a huge impact on both service persons and local businesses with Grant Shapps hosting a conference.
Welwyn Hatfield-based business are to be given the opportunity to sign up to the Military Covenant, the first stage being a fact-finding conference hosted by Grant Shapps on 11th July. Demonstration of their support for the Armed Forces and allowing servicepersons to do work placements can then be taken a step further with Grant later on in the year, when enthusiastic business co-sign the Welwyn Hatfield Corporate Covenant with their local MP.
The concept of Military Covenant was re- introduced to the whole country in 2011, and now the local Corporate Military Covenant is to be launched right here in Welwyn Hatfield. This is the first time a project of this sort has been implemented on a local level.
Grant said ‘We have some great people in our Armed Forces and great businesses in Welwyn Hatfield. I’d like to connect the two together through the Welwyn Hatfield Corporate Military Covenant. In 2013, I hired my agent Jonny, who is an Army Reservist. He had recently left the Army and is a brilliant addition to my team. Such talent shouldn’t just be limited to me or big business in the city, but should also be accessible to businesses right here.’
This is a wonderful way of supporting our armed forces while simultaneously offering businesses a wealth of new talent and skillsets both as employees and customers. It also shows our support of the Armed Forces and demonstrates our duty to help them lead a good life in return for what they have done for our country. This is a fantastic opportunity for the businesses and people of Welwyn Hatfield to support our Armed Forces, and will hopefully be the start of a good relationship between the two.
