News has emerged from site owners Mariposa that Panshanger Aerodrome is to be shut down and planning permission sought to build homes.
The aerodrome has a rich history dating back to World War II when it was used by the RAF for training purposes and has been operational for 70 years. It is currently being used by the North London Flying School, who will have to vacate this historic site as Mariposa has decided against renewing the lease in favour of the plans.
Objections have been raised to the plans by local groups such as Panshanger People and Save Panshanger Airfield, who have urged residents to complain about the plans. A petition against the plans will be circulated soon, don’t forget to sign!
Local Councillor Darren Bennett said,
‘We should work together in a cross community way, to do all we can to save the airfield. Back in 2007, I publicly stated that I was against the airfield being developed on, and position has not changed, and never will.’
