WelHats’ campaign gains momentum after July launch
Once again the generosity of the Welwyn Hatfield community has come to light after the launch of the ‘WelHat’ campaign in mid-July. The campaign, launched by Grant Shapps MP working with UK registered charity ‘Hands in hands with Syria’, is aimed at helping those in dire need having been displaced by the conflict in Syria by gathering donations of knitted winter clothing to be sent to the 40% of the population who have to survive outside during the harsh Syrian winter.
Despite the campaign being launched a mere month ago, it is has been met with an overwhelmingly great response highlighting the true generosity of the local community. The campaign has already received 500 donations and the number is certain to rise—one local resident was even so kind as to donate 12 winter fleeces to the cause!
Similar campaigns that Grant has launched in the past, such as the donation of knitted-clothing to those serving our nation in Afghanistan, have received incredible support in the local community generating 3,000 items for donations. The generosity of the local community is undeniable and the donations that have already flown in since our recent campaign launch continue to prove that fact, it is vital that we can show our support for those people in need and we hope we can better our last record for donations!
Those 500 donations received will go a long way to helping those stranded by war and is an exceptionally high number within only a month of launch, so it is time to say—hats off to the donors!
