The Big Society (Big Soc) has sprung into action in Welwyn Hatfield with the opening of a new mural.
Councillor Lynne Sparks has finally seen the fruits of the community’s labour with the grand opening of the newly painted subway on the Corner of Woods Ave & Queensway, at the Gracemead House exit. This was aided by the Arts Council who also put Lynne in touch with the 'Royal Opera House Bridge' which has led to their investment in the town through the Arts & Culture Festival.
The Arts Council gave the people of Hatfield £10k for the subway mural. It had to be of good quality so they appointed a local expert (deputy director of UHArts) to oversee the planning.
The artist had wanted to do a mural in the town and mentioned it to Grant about doing a Big Society project - in partnership with the Arts Council and local artist Angela Bull.
Unfortunately it took longer than planned because of the bad spring but despite the delays Angela and her volunteers have done a fabulous job. She had local artists help her & school children and a team from Herts Young Homeless.
The end result is brilliant! Angela has done a fabulous job and has had so many positive comments from people passing that it brightens up their day & they walk that way on purpose now.
