In response to the underpass horror story in last weeks edition of the welwyn Hatfield times, I wanted to say that I agree that the subway' needs some work. This is a Herts County Council responsibility which I know they are working on.
However, I really wanted to highlight the fabulous new mural that has been painted on the entry/exit to the subway wall directly below Gracemead House.
With support from our MP Grant Shapps and funding from the Arts Council, and an incredible amount of work by local artist Angela Bull and a large number of adult volunteers & local primary & secondary school children, as part of a Big Society project, we have been able to produce a very impressive mural.
It really is fabulous. If you haven't seen it yet, it really is worth a visit! We have had a huge number of very positive comments from passers by & visitors to our public opening & launch of Hatfest last weekend.
Now we know it can be done, it would be great to do more!
We also have an increasing popular Adopt-a-Road scheme that can easily be adapted to become an Adopt-a-Subway scheme.
If there are any volunteers interested in helping to brighten up our subways then please get in touch.
