Conservative-led Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is taking positive action in responding to the turbulent situation in Afghanistan. 3 Afghan families are able to receive accommodation in Welwyn Hatfield, following the political instability caused by the Taliban.
This is following Boris Johnson’s announcement regarding the UK’s long term aim to provide accommodation for around 20,000 refugees over the next 5 years.
Conservative Council Leader Tony Kingsbury expressed to the council's cabinet: “We need to support these people, they’ve supported us as well, so I absolutely think it’s a good news story from that point of view and we should be supporting it”.
The Conservative-led council has agreed to support this scheme, providing housing for a maximum of three families with a two-bedroom demand. This is an invaluable contribution and we are proud of the crucial role the Conservatives are playing in responding to the global turmoil.
